Steven Mcleod

Steven E. McLeod, a respected veteran and cherished community member, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2024, at the age of 68, in his hometown of Alliance, Ohio. Born on June 22, 1955, to Clyde "Smokey" and Martha (Stenger) McLeod, Steven's life was one of dedication, service, and love for his family and friends.

Steven's formative years in Alliance laid the foundation for a life characterized by commitment and resilience. After graduating from high school, he answered the call of duty and joined the United States Navy. His 20 years of valiant service to his country were marked by honor and distinction. Upon retirement from the Navy, Steven transitioned to a successful career as an electrician in the private sector, where he continued to demonstrate the same work ethic and reliability that had defined his military service.

Family was the cornerstone of Steven's life. He was a devoted brother to Merry Anne (Keith) McLeod-Woolfe, and Terry (Greg) Moore, a supportive brother-in-law to Holly McLeod. Steven's role as a loving stepfather to Laura (Steve) Thomas and Shawn Engle was a source of great joy, and his grandchildren, Mary and Victoria Thomas, brought immense happiness to his later years. He was a cherished uncle to his nieces and nephews, Deborah Terrell, Jeff Elliott, Shawn Elliott, Jessie Beckett, June Beckett, Mike Makin, Alex Phillip, and Nick McLeod, as well as to several great-nieces and nephews. Steven's legacy of love and guidance will continue through each of them. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Lt. Col. Scott McLeod, whose memories remain a beacon of inspiration in the hearts of those who knew them.

Known for his warm spirit and generous nature, Steven was a man who found great pleasure in the simple joys of life. He was the heart of family gatherings, especially during the holidays, where his presence was a comforting constant. Steven's passion for picnics, science fiction movies, and reading reflected his appreciation for both adventure and tranquility. His culinary explorations often found him dining out with friends, where laughter and stories were always on the menu.

Beyond his love for social activities, Steven was an accomplished woodworker. His skillful hands crafted beautiful pieces of furniture that not only served a practical purpose but also carried the warmth of his love, becoming treasured heirlooms for his family. His green thumb was evident in the vibrant garden he tended with care, a testament to his patience and connection to nature.

Steven's dedication to his family was further exemplified during the years he spent caring for his father after the loss of his mother. Those years were a poignant reminder of the depth of his compassion and the strength of familial bonds.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Gednetz-Ruzek-Brown Funeral Home. Friends and family will be received the hour prior to the service from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Military honors will be provided by the Salem Honor Guard.
