Thomas Hoopes, 78, of Salem passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at Essex 1 in Salem. Thomas was born in Alliance on June 20, 1931 the son of the late James R. Hoopes and Elizabeth (Baumgartner) Hoopes Shoar. Mr. Hoopes graduated from Sebring High School in the class of 1949; he then served in the US Navy and Army during the Korean War. Thomas was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Salem, a life member of VFW Post #6730, and a member of the American Legion Post #76. Mr. Hoopes was the Owner/Operator of TNT Trucking in Ft. Lauderdale, FL retiring in 1994. Survivors include; his wife Nora (Rutter) Hoopes of Salem, whom he married on June 5, 1970 three daughters; Stephanie Renna of Stone Mountain, GA, Kimberly Magill of Flowery Branch, GA, Deannea (James) Hoopes-Johnson of Sebring, two step daughters; Debbie Davis and Rebecca Brimlow both of Port St. Lucie, FL, five grandchildren; Jennifer Renna Hingsbergan, Jamilyn Renna, Thomas Joseph Renna, Jobeth Johnson, Seamus Johnson, four step grandchildren; Bobby and Billy Brimlow and Robby and Kevin Davis. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Clinton on Sept. 10, 2005 and his son in law Joseph Renna on April 23, 2008. Services will be held at Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home on Monday, December 14, 2009 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Connie Sassanella officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday the hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park.
