William (Bill) Carner went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, April 18, 2007, following a struggle with pulmonary fibrosis of more than six years. Born May 31, 1926, Bill a former resident of Salem and Alliance, had resided at Copeland Oaks for the past six months. Bill was preceded in death by his father, James J. Carner when Bill was only 9 years old; his mother, Kathryn Shively Carner; and a sister, Fay Carner. Bill is survived by his wife of 58 years, Twila Watters Carner and four children, Russell Carner of Alliance, Elaine (Robert) Owen of Canton, James (Gale) Carner of Chagrin Falls, and Darla (Mike) Butcher of Salem. He was a loving grandfather to 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Two more are on the way. Bill attended Sebring High School and a short time at Ohio State University. He served in the U.S. Army for more than two years and fought in the Battle of the Bulge in Germany, being discharged in 1946. Bill worked in the Sebring Pottery for 11 years and retire from B&W Tube in 1987, after 31 years of service. He was an active member of Damascus Friends Church, and also held memberships in the Sebring V.F.W. and Alliance Senior Center. Bill found the Lord later in life, His favorite movies were âThe Sound of Musicâ and âWhat About Bob?â, TV shows, âSeinfeldâand âEverybody Loves Raymondâ; and teams; Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Indians and West Branch Warriors. He will be greatly missed by family and many faithful friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, April 21, 2007, at Damascus Friends Church with Pastor John Ryser officiating. Calling hours are 5-8pm, today, Friday April 20, at the church and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
