William Irwin

William “Bill” E. Irwin, 75 of Salem, passed away Wednesday, December 09, 2009 at Salem Community Hospital. Bill was born in East Rochester, Ohio on May 24, 1934 the son of the late Walter and Ruth Ann (McCallum) Irwin. He was a Master Sergeant in the US Air Force and remained in the Air National Guard for 15 years; after his service in the Air Force he worked with his father at the Irwin Lumber Company, he was the Owner/Operator of Bill’s Barbershop in Beloit in the 70’s and retired from American Standard in 1996. Mr. Irwin was a member of the American Legion and VFW posts in Sebring; he especially enjoyed the outdoors fishing, hunting, and gardening, he enjoyed flying his plane and raising pigeons and rabbits. He was also known for carrying on a good conversation while working at his Barbershop. Bill is survived by his wife Bonnie J. (Shane) Irwin of Beloit whom he married on May 30, 1952, a son Mike (Kathy) Irwin of Alliance, a daughter Sandy (Chris) Emig of North Benton, six grandchildren; Jason, Evan, and Ryan Irwin, Stacy McMahon, Holly Schenk and Aaron McMahon, and five great grandchildren; Michael, Piper and Kelly Schenk, Cole and Lily Irwin. He is also survived by a ½ brother Laverne Irwin of North Carolina and a step sister Jerrylyn Bowers of Sebring. Services will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Brown Funeral Home in Salem. Friends may call at the funeral home from 12-2 PM. Burial will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery on Monday at 9:30 AM. Friends may sign the guest register or send condolences online at www.brownfhonline.com.
