William "Bill" Woolf

William “Bill” Wilson Woolf, 89 of Sebring and formerly of Salem passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at Crandall Medical Center. Bill was born in Alliance on February 26, 1922 the son of the late Herbert W. and Irene (Ruth) Woolf; he was a graduate of Alliance High School and was a WWII US Navy Veteran serving as a Pharmacist’s Mate Second Class. Bill was employed as a Sales Manager for Lembright Bakery from 1946-1950, McLain Grocery Company from 1950-1967 and retired from Tamarkin Company after working there from 1967-1987. Mr. Woolf came to Salem from Alliance and lived there almost 60 years before moving with his wife to Copeland Oaks in Sebring. Bill was a member of the Salem First United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities; some of which include the Administrative Board, and the Pre-School/Day Care Chairman, and the Methodist Men’s Group where he served as President for many years. In his earlier years he was a Cub Scout Leader and Sunday school teacher, he was a member of United Commercial Travelers, served on the grievance committee at Copeland Oaks, a life long member of the Rosicrucian Order AMORC, but most of all his most noteworthy achievement was his volunteer work; he gave countless hours helping his church, including serving as Head Usher, driving the church van and delivering sermon tapes and flowers to shut ins and seniors at local nursing homes, he also gave of his time at the Bycroft School for challenged children. Survivors include his wife of almost 70 years Mildred (Kitzmiller) Woolf of Sebring, his son Don R. Woolf of Salem, and two daughters; Vanessa and her husband Bob Boyd of Orange Park, FL and Janet L. Gillis of Tulsa, OK. He is also survived by his brother Frank H. and his wife Carol Woolf of Alliance, four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his oldest son David. A Funeral Service will be held at the Salem First United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 2:00PM with Rev. P. Douglas George officiating. The family will receive friends in the Church Parlor following the service. Burial will take place at Highland Memorial Park. Memorial contributions can be made in Bill’s honor to the Salem First United Methodist Church 244 South Broadway St. Salem, OH 44460.
